Nilgiri Hills Trek

Nilgiri Hills or The Nilgiri is a part of Western Ghats. Situated in Tamil Nadu it shares its border with Karnataka and Kerala. Udhagamandalam (better known as Ootacamund, or, more familiarly, Ooty), Kotagiri and Coonoor of Nilgiri district are the most wanted trekking destinations of Tamil Nadu. Favourable climate, gentle slopes and lesser restrictions make it easy for the trekker.

Nilgiris are a trekker's paradise. Landscaped by nature, the hills abound in trek for lovers of nature. There are treks and treks in whichever direction you turn and from whichever point you start. A trek can be full of thrill, excitement and adventure and a way of seeing and enjoying nature in all its beauty and splendour.

Nilgiris offers several trek routes, which vary in distance, altitudes and trkterrain. There is a base camp at Parsons valley, from where one can start trekking to various points within Western Ghats. The down hills of Western Ghats on the North ends up with meeting the extensions of Eastern Ghats, where the sprawling Mudumalai Sanctuary lies which opens vistas for adventure trekkers. A trek through the Nilgiris is a great way to see the hills to wander through forests of rhododendron in full bloom; to visit the wildlife-rich sanctuaries; to walk through rolling green downs and along rippling streams.

April to June and September to December is the ideal time to trek Nilgiri as it is neither too hot nor too cold.
